We are pilgrims and caring for common home is our topmost priority

We are pilgrims, we are sojourners, we are stewards and we have a great responsibility towards our common home. It is given to us freely. We take care of it and and it is our topmost priority to leave it in a same way for others to rest in.

Since we are in lockdown due to pandemic, we had sufficient time to read, reflect and examine our conscience according to the encyclical, Laudato Si. We realized that nature is essential reality that everything surrounds it. Meditating upon various mysteries in the light of Laudato Si and taking help of various prepared prayers we entered into the depth of our great call that is caring for our common home.

We recited the rosaries with the intentions of our Holy Father, “That people may learn to respect creation and care for it as a gift of God.” While reflecting on ‘Carbon Footprint’ we understood what it means. Carbo Footprint is the amount of energy spend or emitted during the production and consumption of goods and services. We discussed on conservation, energy, agriculture, industrialization waste and tried to use ways to reduce our carbon footprint in our daily life.

Together we decided a few action plans to be carried out in our daily lives.

  • Avoid wasting food and water
  • Using public transport more often
  • Buying goods that are really needed
  • Proper dispose of waste
  • Involving hostel children in tree plantation and gardening and teaching them the importance of caring for our common home
  • On birthdays planting a sapling in our garden.
